Description
This would be the initial planning lesson to introduce the unit of completing a Research project. This would be in connection with working towards a CoPE level 2 qualification provided by ASDAN. The specific unit towards CoPE is highlighted in the name. This would aimed at a group of mixed ability learners in year 10 or year 11.
Aims
Plan research into an area that is of personal interest and allows access to the CoPE Level 2 qualification.

    Students will be given some initial individual research time which will involve using the internet to look for broad areas that they may like to complete a research topic on.

    Students will decide on sections for their own independent research and choose one overall area to research. NOTE: students will be using their gained knowledge/comprehension of the task to make the decisions such as whether the research section offers them enough opportunity to meet the standards for the qualification.

    Students will partner up with another student to peer review the decisions made and will challenge each through questioning to decide if each others section of research will generate enough evidence for the standards to be met.

    Students will use their knowledge of the standards with guidance to make independent decisions on what specific techniques or methods they will use to carry out their research project. Students will make some brief outline notes.

    Using the planning template, students will be given time to develop their ideas further. This will involve independent planning of how they will approach the task based on working towards achieving the standards for the planning aspect of the unit.

    The teacher will lead a plenary to direct the homework task to complete the planning document ensuring that the standards have been met. The plenary will also set the learning scene for the next session/lesson which will be to further develop the planning document based on further peer assessment.
