Students will explore the impact of social media in real life. They will involve in a critical thinking about pro and cons of social media, about the difference in privacy settings and netiquette.
Aims
Critical thinking: sensitize students, teachers and parents about social media and how to use them to become better digital citizens. Collaboration; Communication; creating and innovating. Improve digital skills.

    Discussion in plenary session about the survey questions. The survey should investigate: - what are the most common social media used. - what are the social media pro and cons.

    Survey creation using Google form and sending it by the digital school book to all the school staff: students, teachers and parents.

    Pupils will be divide in 2 group: 1. pro social media group 2. cons social media group using the survey data and also their opinions pupils have to prepare a debate about the pro and cons of social media in their community and modern society. Pupils with the teacher will arrange a rubric to follow to assess the debate. There's an example on the attached find online.

    Pro and cons groups will face each other trying to assert their reasons. Teacher will be the moderator. 4 pupils and if possible other 1/2 teachers will be the audience and they should judge who will win the debate. The assessment should be consider who have better expressed their reasons without considering their own opinion about the topic.

Fase 3: Social media netiquette

    In plenary session pupils will be invite to discuss about a right behavior on a social media. What they think is right to do and what not. What is legally and what not. Teacher should introduce what is the digital footprint, maybe showing some video. All the points will be write down on the board.

    Pupils divided in group should create a: - digital poster. - a printable brochure. - a video. about the netiquette LIKELY OUTCOMES: Netiquette is a guideline for appropriate behavior using internet. - respect the other people's feeling; - respect others' privacy. - use appropriate languages. - use good grammar and spelling. - do not plagiarism. - Do not share your personal data such as address, phone number, parents' name ect.. - if you feel uncomfortable with something ask to your parents. - don't agree to meet people face to face without speaking with your parents. - understand what are cyberbullying and cyberstalking and contrast them. - ect .... ect ...

    Pupils will create a Facebook page. On the home page should be explained: - the Facebook page has been created to show how social media could be useful to communicate with peers, teachers and parents sharing ideas, resources, school helps, happy moments happened in school. - the netiquette created posting the digital poster and the video. - the privacy setting instruction for Facebook and for the most common social media used. Pupils are divide in groups: - FB administrators. - FB moderator. - FB reporter. Every month the roles could change.
